How to Install LamShot on Windows

Getting LamShot up and running on Windows takes less than two minutes. Follow these steps to download, install, and take your first screenshot right away.

Step 1 — Visit the LamShot Website

1. Open your browser and go to the download page

   Navigate to the official LamShot website and click the Download button on the homepage. Always download from the official site to make sure you get the latest, malware-free version.

Step 2 — Download the Installer

1. Save the installer file

   Your browser will download a file named something like LamShot-Setup.exe. Save it to your Downloads folder or any location you can find easily. The file is small — typically under 20 MB — so the download finishes in seconds on a normal connection.

Step 3 — Run the Installer

1. Launch the setup wizard

   Double-click LamShot-Setup.exe to start the installer. Windows may show a User Account Control prompt asking if you want to allow the app to make changes — click Yes to continue.

2. Follow the setup wizard

   The setup wizard walks you through a few screens. The default options work well for most people: install location, Start Menu shortcut, and a desktop shortcut. Click Next through each screen, then click Install.

3. Wait for installation to finish

   Installation usually completes in under 30 seconds. When the final screen appears, leave the "Launch LamShot" checkbox ticked and click Finish.

Step 4 — First Launch

1. LamShot starts automatically

   After installation, LamShot launches in the background. You will not see a big window open — LamShot is designed to stay out of your way until you need it.

2. Check the system tray

   Look at the bottom-right corner of your taskbar (the system tray). You should see the LamShot icon — a small camera or lens shape. If you do not see it, click the upward arrow (Show hidden icons) to reveal icons that are tucked away.

Step 5 — Take Your First Screenshot

Press the default capture hotkey (usually F1 or a combination shown during setup) to take your first screenshot. A crosshair cursor appears so you can drag a region to capture. After you release the mouse, a toolbar pops up with options to annotate, copy, save, or share your screenshot.\n\nIf you want LamShot to start automatically every time Windows starts, right-click the tray icon and enable "Start with Windows."

Troubleshooting

If the installer does not run, check that your antivirus has not quarantined the file. Temporarily disabling real-time protection during installation, then re-enabling it afterward, usually resolves this.\n\nIf the tray icon does not appear, open the Start Menu, search for LamShot, and launch it manually. It should then appear in the tray.
